The quality of the food matches the effort the owners have put into creating a mountain retreat style restaurant. I ordered the Mint Iced Tea and the Ruben. I could taste the fresh mint in the drink! Outstanding. The Ruben had crunchy bread piled high with delicious Corned Beef, a nice slice of Swiss Cheese, Thousand Island Dressing, and lots of Sauerkraut. The bread, people! Amazing! So many times it gets soggy if the meat isn’t done properly, but the bread had a hugely satisfying crunch. Finished the meal with a lemon cupcake. I enjoyed it more than any cupcake I’ve gotten from cupcake places. The cake was very lemony, moist, and the icing was perfect: so creamy, not too sweet or too much. Loved the meal and the atmosphere.

My Pork Barbecue with Coleslaw Sandwich got better with every bite. The pork was tender, a little sweet, and a few bites in I felt the heat of the spices. The coleslaw on top was the perfect relief from the barbecue heat. The slaw had a nice crunch–done just right, not too creamy, tasting very fresh like everything there, including the drinks! I got a fresh squeezed lemonade that was cool and sweet, nice on a hot summer’s day. I finished my meal with an Apricot Cranberry Oatmeal Cookie. It was so soft on the inside with delicious apricot chunks. This cookie tasted like a lot of love went into it! Really enjoyable ambiance as well. It was easy to get to off of 381, but it felt like a romantic woodsy retreat with beautiful furnishings, decorations, and plants. I highly recommend Bittersweet Café!
